John Muir Trust Wild Nature Diary and Calendar 2018

I am really pleased to feature in the 2018 JMT Wild Nature Diary and Calendar. They are both beautifully produced and edited by John and Jan Beatty.  I particularly value the opportunity to explore the remote woodlands, glens and valleys of the UK and they provide great inspiration for my photography. They are important natural habitats for everyone to connect with nature. The John Muir Trust is a charity which aims to protect these wild landscapes, and works to keep these places free from development.

Currently the John Muir Trust have 2 principle campaigns. ‘Keep it Wild” aims to protect 41 designated wild areas in Scotland from developments such as transmission lines, wind turbines and large quarries. The ‘Heart of Scotland Forest Appeal’ is a project to create a wild woodland area in the centre of Highland Perthshire.

In England, the Lake District National Park Authority has recently agreed in principal to lease Glenridding Common to the John Muir Trust. This area includes the summit of Helvellyn.

As a photographer I think it is important that we reflect about the sustainability of our environment and how we can support our wild landscapes.
